Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
